Preschool upbringing
Welcomed for self-education in preschool education programme are 6 – year – old children. Preschool upbringing for those under above age can be rendered either upon parents’ request or in case he/she is already a 5 – year- old child, mature enough for this upbringing.
The aim of preschool upbringing is to foster learners’ capacities, predetermining the development of a personality and success of socialization, proper maturity for school by gaining competencies that are necessary for daily life and successful school education/self-education.
Educational activity in the group is implemented in English/Russian/Lithuanian. Twice a week lessons in English are offered in the group, where there are no English speaking children.
The concept of children‘s school maturity
A child’s maturity for school is a physical, intellectual, social and practical level of maturity, creating assumptions for successful self-education on the basis of general programme for primary schools and for adoption to school life. Spheres of evaluation of above maturity are following:
- physical maturity, i. e. a good physical and psychical health, developed movements, good finger – wrist motor skills, good eye – arm coordination;
- intellectual maturity, i. e. active interest in global matters, elements of voluntary memory and attention, elements of logical, critical, problem-oriented and creative thinking, developed speech, basic mathematical images;
- social maturity, i. e. basic self-control and temper, positive self- perception and self-respect, ability to focus on goals, to communicate, cooperate, willingness to be a learner;
- practical maturity, i. e. different practical skills and abilities (Glebuvienė et al, 2002).
