IB unit – “ Where we are in place and time“. Shaping the Future: How Past Discoveries and Inventions Inspire Innovation

Discoveries and inventions of the past are an integral part of our present. They shape our worldview, provide opportunities for growth, help solve real – world problems, explore the world, and improve our living conditions. Every discovery is the result of many people’s efforts, and its impact often spans centuries. Discoveries shape our present, lay the foundation for innovations, and allow us to strive for an even better future.
During this unit, fourth-grade students analyzed and compared the concepts of invention and discovery, gathered information about a chosen invention or discovery, examined the reasons behind its creation, and explored how it evolved and improved over time. During other activities, students created their own “Future Ship” and “Future Power Plant.” They realised the importance of not only valuing the achievements of the past but also continuing to encourage innovations that could become the foundation of the future.
