IB unit – “Who we are“. The Magic of Music and Art: Discovering Emotions Through Creativity

It is never too early or too late to get to know music and art – after all, they accompany us everywhere! But how much do we truly hear, feel, and understand them? How does music influence our emotions and well-being?
While exploring the first unit of inquiry, pre-school students explored how music and art help us understand ourselves and express our feelings.
Inspired by Wassily Kandinsky’s painting “Concentric Circles,” preschoolers created their own artworks – mood-based circle drawing. They observed music influenced their emotions and creativity: cheerful music encouraged them to use bright colours, while calm melodies inspired soft, pastel tones.
This activity nurtured creativity and artistic expression, helping children to better understand their emotions and convey them through colour, shape, and line.
