IB unit: “How we express ourselves”. Self-expression through music: first-graders' experiences.

While exploring this topic, first graders examined how music can serve as a way to express feelings, thoughts, and personal experiences. The students were introduced to various elements of music, listened to musical works from different cultures, discussed their moods, and shared their impressions. They learned to recognize how the rhythm or tempo of a melody helps to convey certain emotions and create a mood. During the activities, first graders sorted musical instruments, explored their sounds, created rattles, and played music together. Practical and creative activities encouraged curiosity, engagement, and collaboration. This theme helped children develop active listening skills, creativity, and the courage to express their feelings.
