IB unit "Sharing the Planet"

1st grade students during the "Sharing the Planet" unit learned the following concepts: resources, conservation, gemstones, climate, and soil. The students eagerly searched for and explained what natural resources are, sorting and grouping them. Also, during the lessons, children learned how plastic, made from oil, pollutes the environment and oceans, how it contributes to the extinction of some aquatic animals, and discussed an extremely important problem of deforestation. While learning to conserve, the 1st grade students learned to sort and throw paper into the designated bins, and use its small colored pieces for crafts or sketches. The final research project was made from paper cutouts. Together, they created artworks on the theme of "Conservation of Trees" and presented them to the school community members.
