IB unit: “Where we are in place and time”. Human and Environment: A Dialogue of Structures.
2025 December 4th Grade 2

During this learning cycle, second graders analyzed how environmental conditions influence the shape, structure, and strength of houses. By exploring various examples, they investigated how climate, available space, and environmental features determine architectural solutions.

Students constructed house models using plasticine balls and toothpicks, explored the properties of plasticine, and observed that a structure's stability depends on its shape. While drawing “Tolerance Street Houses,” students illustrated different buildings that reflect unity and diversity. During practical activities, they also measured the length and width of the school’s modular building and calculated its perimeter.

By summarizing their investigation and analyzing a literary text, students concluded that climate conditions and local characteristics influence the construction of houses, the materials used, and their appearance. ????
