IB unit "Who we are". Our senses

2023 January 20th Early School
23rd of September – An Apple Day - was a good opportunity to remember the principles of healthy nutrition and lifestyle and to analyze the unit about senses. Preschoolers celebrated this day in a fun, inventive, friendly and tasty atmosphere. Students tasted autumn apples, baked one apple pie, tried some freshly squeezed apple juice and much more...
Our students talked about where the apples grow, discussed their color, size and shape, and compared them with each other. While tasting the apples, they discovered that these fruits can be sour, sweet or/and juicy. Students discussed the importance of apples for human nutrition: apples could be eaten being dried, apple cheeses could be made from apples as well, sweet jams produced, juice could be squeezed, vinegar could be made, and cakes could be baked. Students learned about the benefits of apples for human health, counted the vitamins hidden in them. While cutting the apple into parts, our preschoolers learnt about its structure, weighed it on a scale, and talked about what it takes to make an apple grow. The little explorers drew red-cheeked apples and created the most beautiful wishes for children all over the world – such as “Stay healthy, don't get sick and be happy”.
