IB unit “Who we are“. Through the Lens of Senses.
2024 September 24th Pre-school

Who are we? How do we perceive the world? What senses do provide us with essential information about our environment? These were the questions explored by our preschoolers as they delved into the unit of inquiry.

During their learning journey, students had a chance to visit the Klaipėda Concert Hall, where they tried to answer a question: "How do we use our senses?" The children were captivated by the backstage areas of the concert hall. They were introduced to various musical instruments, including the carillon, gong, metallophone, cello, and double bass. The children had the opportunity to touch the instruments and hear the sounds they made. The air was filled with silence, wonder, and the children’s amazement. The excitement grew even more when our students had the chance to conduct using a real conductor’s baton.

Later, we strolled through the corridors of the concert hall, where portraits of composers greeted us. The children gazed at them with great fascination. We also caught the distinct scent of makeup in the dressing rooms, where the children tried out makeup chairs and looked into the mirrors.

We concluded this wonderful journey by admiring a collection of postcards and coins.

Moreover, we explored the enchanting world of sounds—a world we could not only hear but also see, touch, and even smell.

The day was filled with incredible sensory experiences that children will cherish in their memories for a long time.
