"Blacksmithing Today".

2020 October 22th

October 22 first-graders participated in the education "Blacksmithing Today". The session took place in a forge in Vilkyčiai. We will not make mistake in calling iron the most precious metal known to us. You ask why? Admittedly, we would lose a great deal without iron. Without this metal, many inventions would not have been created, and our lives would probably not have been as comfortable as they are now. The anvil is one of the most important tools of a blacksmith, which has been constantly evolving since its inception. The first anvils used in ancient times were the simplest stones. Currently, the anvils of blacksmiths who produce fence gates, outdoor lamps, handrails or decor details in blacksmiths are made of steel. Modern blacksmithing uses many types of metals - from steel, brass, copper to bronze and others. Often the metal chosen is not the main indicator of quality, usually, the skills of the craftsman are the biggest influence. Modern blacksmithing produces a wide range of metal products: stair railings, sculptures, decorative decorations… However, for many of us, blacksmithing is associated with antiquity, historical facts, the production of weapons. The blacksmith passes on the secrets of his craft to young and talented children. In this education, the first graders not only learned from experience but also experienced many wonderful moments!
