International day for Tolerance – 16th November

16th of  November has been annually observed since 1995 when UNESCO declared this day as International day for Tolerance.

The main idea of this day in 2019 – Lighthouse of Tolerance. A lighthouse as a symbol means help. Lighthouses guide ships and help them maneuver in shallow and confined water. Also, the word ‘tolerance’ signifies forbearance, gives people ability to live peacefully in society and accept others. Tolerance as the lighthouse is a safe way for ships and people. Tolerance promotes forbearance and ability to respect others despite different opinions, nationalities, races and religions.

5th -8th grade students talked about this during the week of tolerance with a history teacher Romualda and classroom teachers Rita, Kristina, Lina and Kamile. Students also designed and created their own lighthouses of tolerance.
